Parking

Does My Vehicle Qualify for Free Metered Parking?

If you can answer yes to one of the following three questions your vehicle is a SLC "Green Vehicle" and is eligible to park for free at all city parking meters:

  1. Do you have a Utah Clean Fuel special group license plate on your vehicle?
  2. Does your vehicle achieve 41+ MPG city fuel economy as determined by the EPA?
  3. Is your vehicle certified as achieving an EPA pollution score of at least 8 in Utah

If you answer yes to #1 you already have everything you need to park for free at Salt Lake City parking meters. Your Utah Clean Fuel license plate on your vehicle is your permit to park free at all Salt Lake City parking meters.

If you answer yes to #2 or #3 you must pick up a free "Green Vehicle" parking sticker from the city Transportation Division office to begin parking free at city meters. Only vehicles displaying a Utah Clean Fuel license plate or a Salt Lake City "Green Vehicle" parking permit sticker will be granted free parking under this program.

Please note that drivers of all qualifying vehicles are required to comply with posted time limits and all other city parking restrictions/codes which includes:

No person parking a vehicle without charge pursuant to this program shall park or permit such vehicle to remain parked in any parking meter space adjacent to a meter for a continuous period longer than that designated on the meter, nor shall they park in restricted spaces. In addition, no person shall, having left a parking meter space, reenter the parking anywhere along the same street block face within the same length of time as the posted meter time limitation plus (30) minutes immediately following the vacation of the place of initial parking.
