- Ensure software compatibility with City existing systems
- Ensure hardware compatibility with City infrastructure
- Reduce duplication of information technology systems
- Ensure the security of our voice and data networks
- Ensure efficiency and effectiveness in Information Technology policies, procedures, and practices
The Steering Committee is the oversight group that guides IMS in the development of the City’s Information Technology Master Plan. The committee meets on a regular basis to discuss the state of technology in the City and to set priorities for both IMS and other City departments.
IMS Organization Chart
As an internal service fund, IMS provides IT support for all City departments. The department is organized into five teams.
Infrastructure and Operations
The Operations Group is comprised of two teams - the Network Support Team and the Network Engineering Team.
The Network Support team has responsibility for end user support of PC, notebooks, printers, and other desktop equipment including smartphones and personal computing devices. This is largely done through the IMS Help Desk with additional support from field technicians. The IMS Help Desk answers calls 7/24/365. Help for City employees is only a phone call away.
The Network Engineering Team handles the design and maintenance of the City’s computing infrastructure. From servers and switches to firewalls and email, from environmental controls and security systems to telephones and video conferencing, this team manages the complexities of providing a secure, reliable, stable computing environment.
Software Engineering
The Software Engineering team designs, builds, and maintains custom applications enabling the City to be more efficient in providing services to the public. Using industry standard tools and technologies, the SE team works to provide solutions to business requirements. The City uses a formal evaluation before undertaking a development project. A set of requirements for the proposed solution is gathered and a process to determine whether to build or buy is completed. Only after it has been determined that developing the solution do we begin designing and building the solution.
Technology Consulting and Software Support
This group is comprised of three teams. Each has a similar but distinct role in supporting the needs of the departments, our customers.
The Technology Consulting team handles the interface between the department and IMS. These folks are the liaisons and advocates for the customer. They work directly with the departments and divisions to look at processes and procedures looking for the way to apply the appropriate technology to solve a business problem. Through direct contact with the customer department management and line level workers, TCs develop an understanding of what they do and how they do it.
The Document Management team works with departments and divisions to store digital copies of the myriads of documents, images, spreadsheets, and other correspondence created in the course of providing services the public. Using a standardized set of tools, this team assists departments with their document management and records retention needs.
The Software Support team has responsibility for all third party applications. This team develops expertise in specific applications implemented in the departments and divisions. They handle training and support as well and maintenance and troubleshooting of dozens of application from a wide variety of suppliers.
Multimedia Services
The Multimedia Services team manages and supports the City’s websites and Government Access cable TV station. This team designs, develops, and maintains websites for all City departments and provides training and support for the people in the departments and divisions responsible for updating and keeping the content on the website relevant, current, interesting, and informative.
Adminstration
The IMS Administration team provides direct support to the organization taking care of accounts payable, accounts receivable, equipment inventories, and the front office support for the IMS organization.
