License Plate Infractions

Every vehicle at all times while being driven, stopped or parked upon the streets or alleys of this city, shall (1) be registered in the name of the owner thereof in accordance with the laws of the state, unless such vehicle is not required by the laws of Utah to be registered in this state; (2) display in proper position two valid, unexpired registration plates, one on the front and one on the rear of such vehicle; and (3) when required, current validation or indicia of registration attached to the rear plate and in a manner complying with the laws of the state of Utah, and free from defacement, mutilation, grease and other obscuring matters, so as to be plainly visible and legible at all times. However, if such vehicle is not required to be registered in this state, and the indicia of registration issued by another state, territory, possession or district of the United States, or of a foreign country, substantially complies with the provisions hereof, such registration shall be considered as compliance with this code.

Utah law requires you to get Utah plates & drivers license within sixty days of moving here or accepting employment. IF YOU WERE CITED FOR A PARKING VIOLATION:

With proof the courts will reduce the citation (within 10 calendar days of issued date) for the following reasons:

If you were cited for "No Front Plate" and the missing plate has been attached, please indicate on the citation that the plate has been affixed. We will clear the "No Front plate" violation for $5.00 on the first citation only. Any additional “No Front plate” citations will be $20.00. If you need to replace the plates in order to obtain a new front plate, we will dismiss the "No Front Plate" violation with proof from the department of Motor Vehicles showing the plates have been replaced.

If you were cited for expired registration, we will clear the citation for $20.00 with proof that the vehicle is now registered. If the vehicle was registered at the time the citation was issued, but decals were not on, we will clear the citation for $10.00.

IF YOU WERE CITED FOR A TRAFFIC CITATION:

If you were cited for "No Front Plate" and the missing plate has been attached, please indicate on the citation that the plate has been affixed. We will clear the "No Front plate" violation for $10.00 on the first citation only.

If you were cited for expired registration, we will clear the citation for half of the original penalty with proof that the vehicle is now registered.

If the vehicle was registered at the time the citation was issued, but decals were not on, we will clear the citation for $10.00 with proof.

Please send in the proper payment with a photocopy of the registration within 14 calendar days of citation issue date.
