Transportation - University to Downtown Bikeway

The University to Downtown Bikeway

The University to Downtown Bikeway connects two of Salt Lake City's most popular destinations: the University of Utah and the heart of Downtown Salt Lake City, with its concentration of restaurants, shopping, theaters and outdoor festivals.

Students, faculty, and residents alike can choose from marked easy, intermediate, and "black diamond" bike routes traversing the slope between the U and downtown. The bikeway uses Salt Lake City streets with a mix of bike lanes and shared lanes. In the Downtown area, enjoy the relaxed approach of the 300 South protected bike lanes.

Swoop Downtown to head out to dinner, enjoy a night on the town, attend the summer Twilight Concert Series, or pick up some fresh veggies at the Downtown Farmer's Market at Pioneer Park. Spin up the hill to an event at Kingsbury Hall, a live performance at the Pioneer Theatre, or even to attend class. Don't feel like tackling the hill, even on the easiest grade? Talking Red Line TRAX light rail or the "2 to the U" bus up hill is another option.

The University of Utah is one of the state's premier bicycle commuting destinations, with many faculty, staff, students, and visitors choosing to arrive by bike. This bikeway is part of Salt Lake City and the Uniersity of Utah's commitment to make bicycling safer and more enjoyable, as a matter of community sustainability, clean air, economic development, and public health.

This signed, marked bikeway was funded primarily by Salt Lake City, with matching funds provided by the University of Utah.
