EPA Pollution Score of At Least 8

The EPA publishes detailed air pollution scores for vehicles, beginning with model year 2000, using a scale of 0-10 with 10 being the least polluting. As of December 2007, the EPA Green Vehicle Guide indicates the standard fuel powered vehicles listed below as being certified to achieve an EPA pollution score of at least 8 while operating in Utah.

If you would like to look up your vehicle's score in the EPA Guide use the "Look Up a Vehicle" box to enter your vehicles year, make, model and select "Utah" as your State. Next, identify your specific vehicle by matching your vehicle's engine size, transmission and if necessary, its Underhood Label ID. Please note that only vehicles listed when selecting "Utah" as your state qualify for SLC's "Green Vehicle" program since these are the only vehicles certified as achieving a pollution score of 8 or higher while operating in Utah.

*In some cases a vehicle in a given model year was or is produced with differing engine characteristics or emission controls resulting in multiple pollution scores for the same model vehicle. These vehicles are shown in green in the tables above. If you own one of these vehicles, your vehicle's Underhood Label ID must match the one given in the tables above to qualify for SLC's "Green Vehicle" program. The label can usually be found under your vehicle's hood near the engine and looks similar to the picture below. Click here for assistance locating your vehicle's Under hood Label ID (also known as the emission control information label.)

If your vehicle is certified as achieving and EPA pollution score of at least 8 in Utah and, if necessary, you verified your vehicle has the appropriate underhood label ID, you can obtain a Salt Lake City "Green Vehicle" parking permit to park free at city meters. Simply bring your registration, driver's license and vehicle to the city's Transportation Division office located at 349 South 200 East, Suite 450, between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday, to obtain your permit. If your vehicle registration is from a state other than Utah, you must also bring proof of Utah residency/property ownership or proof of business/non-profit organization location within Utah (Lease, rental agreement, deed or two utility bills).

Please note that drivers of qualifying vehicles are still required to comply with posted time limits and other parking restrictions/codes.
