Yard waste recycling rules

This program will recycle waste from your yard into wonderful compost that may be purchased at the landfill.  By following the rules below, the lalndfill will be able to continue producing high quality mulch and compost.  Because we care about the quality of compost produced, we will be enforcing the below rules.  Violation of these rules may result in removal of container and fine.

  • Yard waste only
  • No kitchen waste
  • Do not bag yard waste
  • No thorns
  • No dirt
  • Lid must completely close
  • Maximum weight: 300 pounds

Yard waste only: garbage can not be turned into mulch. Garbage in one container may contaminate the whole truck load of yard waste recyclables.

No Kitchen waste: the landfill is not permited to compost food and kitchen waste.

Do not bag yard waste: plastic and paper bags do not break down in the composting process.  They only litter the great compost.

No thorns: thorns do not break down in the composting process.

No dirt: dirt is very heavy.  A little dirt left on weeds is okay.

Lid closed: you are required to have your lid shut all the way for the truck driver to empty your container.

Maximum weight 300 lbs: if you are recycling heavy items, please do not fill your container full.  Items like cut up tree trunks may add up to 300 lbs when your container is only 1/2 full.
