Salt Lake City Curbside Recycling

Salt Lake City contracts with Allied Waste to collect recyclables from an estimated 45,000 residential homes, and 1,100 small businesses and multi-family complexes every day, five days per week.  An average of 900 tons of material are recycled each month.

What You Can Recycle

Newspaper and newspaper inserts Steel (tin) food cans
Cardboard boxes, shoe boxes, cereal boxes, paper tubes Plastic containers (#1-7) and bags
Magazines and phone books Plastic-coated milk and juice cartons
Aluminum cans Junk mail, office paper, envelopes

"Contaminants" = Unacceptable Items

Placing unacceptable items in your recycling container can affect everything else in the recycling truck and increase the cost of this program.  If we find unacceptable items in your container, it may not get serviced.

About 250 tons of unacceptable materials are collected in our curbside bins every month.  If you see a contaminated recycling bin, please email us at slcstreets@slcgov.com.  Be sure to include the location, date and time.
