SLC Green - Water
Water is essential. Water shapes and molds the topography of the earth. It is key to chemical and physical reactions (breathing and respiring) and everything that living being do. We cannot live without clean water. 70% of the earth is water and 97% of that is salt water, therefore not suitable for drinking. 2% of the fresh water on earth is frozen in glaciers or the ice caps. This leaves 7 billion people with only 1% of the earth's water to drink. This is a daunting ratio and, to make matters worse, population growth, urban sprawl and climate change threaten the small amount of water we are able to use. It is not something to be wasted.
Salt Lake City's most important goals are the preservation of the drinking water source quality, the protection of the watershed, and water conservation.
