SLC Green - Climate Change & Air Quality
Salt Lake City is a great place to live, work and play. But one unfortunate reality that cannot be ignored are the Red and Yellow Air Quality Action Days that dot the calendar in both winter and summer months.
According to the Utah Department of Environmental Quality, over 50% of Utah's air pollution comes from motor vehicles. These emissions add potentially harmful pollutants into the air, and lead to a handful of days every year that are classified as "unhealthy" in Salt Lake City and other parts of Utah.
Salt Lake City is aggressively working to reduce vehicle emissions and improve air quality through programs that conserve electricity and natural gas, encourage individuals to drive down their personal motor vehicle miles, and reduce other sources of air pollution. The City has been working to reduce both its own internal fleet emissions, and the vehicle emissions generated by the community.
