Crossing guards and pedestrian safety
Adult school crossing guards play an important role
in the lives of children who walk or bicycle to school. They help
children safely cross the street at key locations throughout the
Salt Lake City area. They also remind drivers of the presence of
pedestrians. The presence of adult crossing guards can lead to more
parents feeling comfortable about their children walking or
bicycling to school. While the primary role of an adult school
crossing guard is to guide children safely across the street,
children also remain responsible for their own safety. In this
manner, a guard plays another key function — a role model helping
children develop the skills necessary to cross streets safely at all
times. Salt Lake City crossing guards safely assist approximately
11,600 children daily.
Salt Lake City is always looking for individuals
willing to commit to the safe crossing of all our students. Crossing
guards are paid at a rate of $12.80 per crossing. Guards may cross
children 2 or 3 times daily.
Salt Lake City focuses on the safety for all. We
encourage and welcome all individuals to become a part of our team
and to help assist in our Crossing Guard program.
