Mountain Dell Canyon Golf Course Escape to the mountains for an enjoyable round of either of the two full 18-hole courses located a quarter way up Parley's Canyon, Mountain Dell Golf Course. Truly enjoy the ambiance of these delightful courses by taking a drink of fresh water tapped directly from a natural spring, look around the hills and lakes for moose, and take a deep breath of the mountain air.
Superintendent: Mark Ruff, CGCS PGA Professional: Tom Sorensen Size: 201 acres; mountains, hilly terrain Par: 72 for men, 73 for women Yardages: 6,787 yards (black tees); 6,416 (blue tees); 6,016 yards (white tees); 5,477 (yellow tees) Course record: Competitive: 65-Henry White, Eric Hogg The Mountain Dell Canyon Course features 13 of the original 18 holes at Mountain Dell and five new holes rolling up the eastern canyon carved out of the natural oak brush and rose thickets. The par-5s on the Canyon Course provide a tricky risk-reward situation, with well-executed shots rewarded with an eagle or birdie opportunity and misguided shots lost in the native underbrush. The par-5 14th hole, which measures 504 yards from the blue tees and only 484 yards from the white markers, is a classic challenge. Players electing to hit driver off the tee must fly a deep ravine (hazard) across the fairway, but an accurate ball is rewarded with a relatively short second shot to the par-5 green. Tee balls struck left, right or short result in a bogey or double bogey. The fourth and 11th holes also are short par-5s, both playing uphill, that offer significant rewards for long, straight hitters. Like the Mountain Dell Lake Course, the Canyon Course is a delight for wildlife watchers. Players frequenting the Canyon Course in the morning or early evening may see deer, elk, moose, eagles, hawks, badgers, squirrels and an occasional cougar (please don't feed the animals). The Canyon Course stretches up the eastern mountain from the clubhouse approximately four miles before looping back, so motorized golf carts are recommended.
