Drug Detectives
Seize Over a Kilo of Cocaine and a Gun
In every community across this
country, the scourge of illegal drugs is a huge problem that our
society faces. Although a daunting task, the Salt Lake City Narcotics
Squad tackles this problem diligently and has made progress in this
battle.
On March 25, 2008, these detectives developed information regarding a
drug dealer that was responsible for the flow of a large amount of
drugs into our community. They set up an operation to arrest this
individual in a parking lot near 700 East 4500 South.
When 23-year-old Javier Castro-Ramirez arrived at this location, he
likely was unaware that the over 2 ½ pounds of cocaine and the
handgun he was transporting were soon to be seized by police.
Detectives worked with K-9 officers from the Murray Police Department.
Together, they were able to target a location underneath the passenger
seat of the vehicle that contained a hidden compartment. Inside the
compartment, police located the gun and drugs.
This arrest will not solve the problem of drugs in our community.
Through the ongoing diligent work of many police officers, however,
progress on this front is being made.
If you suspect drug activity is occurring in your neighborhood in Salt
