Major Burglary Ring
Exposed
The Salt Lake City Police Department,
working in cooperation with several local and federal law enforcement
agencies, has been successful in exposing a major burglary ring that
may be responsible for over 110 residential burglaries in the Salt
Lake Valley.
At around 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 11th, a witness observed a suspect
kick in a door and enter a Sugar House residence. The witness notified
police, and responding officers made contact with four suspects in a
vehicle attempting to leave the scene. One suspect fled on foot while
the others remained in the vehicle. After a short foot pursuit the
fleeing suspect, as well as the three suspects in the vehicle, were
taken into custody.
Burglary detectives conducted immediate follow-up on the case, and
suspects led investigators to approximately 110 residences around the
Salt Lake Valley that they claimed to have burglarized.
Several agencies around the valley have been involved with the
subsequent investigation, and approximately 20 suspects have been
identified in this burglary ring.
Law enforcement officials are currently in the process of trying to
contact each of the residents who have potentially been victimized by
these suspects. The modus operandi of this burglary ring is to
look for residences that appear to be unoccupied during daylight
hours. The suspects will knock on the door, and if there is no answer
they will kick in the door and make entry. This is often done to the
front door, but occasional forced entry will be made at back and side
doors.
The public should be aware of how these suspects operate, and are
encouraged to contact local law enforcement if they notice people in
their neighborhoods who they have reason to believe may be involved
with this type of illegal activity.
