Salt Lake Solutions
Salt Lake Solutions projects involve the community, all levels of government, business and non-profit organizations in solving problems that cannot be achieved without the integration of public and private support. The Salt Lake Solutions approach is inclusive, collaborative, problem-solving and action-oriented, leverages public and private resources, facilitates thoughtful fact-based decisions, and leads to timely implementation. Salt Lake Solutions projects follow this process:
- A project (problem or opportunity) is identified that meets one or more Community Objectives and would benefit from broad public and private sector cooperation.
- Mayor Ralph Becker, acting as convener, appoints a neutral community convener to lead the Salt Lake Solutions Partners Team.
- The Salt Lake Solutions Partners Team is created to include community, government, business and non-profit organizations who can contribute time and resources to the project.
- Using collaborative decision-making principles, the Salt Lake Solutions Partners Team creates a workable solution to the problem or opportunity. The Solutions Partners Team will leverage public and private resources to undertake the project.
- A Partnering Agreement is signed outlining each Salt Lake Solutions Partner’s individual commitments to the project, as well as a project timeline.
The first Salt Lake Solutions project is renovation of the City-owned Fisher Mansion for community re-use. We have assembled a diverse group of stakeholders who will consider the hundreds of suggestions received from community members and decide how best to re-use the renovated mansion, carriage house and property. We are in the process of selecting the next Salt Lake Solutions project, which will likely focus on solving a long-standing community problem by involving all potentially affected interests in a community dialogue.
