Work Session- Items of Interest

The Council will:

•discuss the Salt Lake City Historic Preservation Plan. It’s a strategic document to guide preservation activity into the future and guide decisions such as amendments to master plans, budget priorities, development of incentives for rehabilitation, zoning text and map amendments, and site-specific development decisions. Projects such as Character Conservation Districts and development of the process and criteria to designate local Historic Districts/Landmark Sites will be considered by the Council.

This meeting is scheduled to include discussion about the most recent update from the City's Administration on the work that the Planning Division has been doing to better define the historic district process. The Council will consider the Administration's recommendations but also will have a broad discussion for options to be considered.

•receive a follow-up briefing regarding an ordinance creating a Small Neighborhood Business zoning district and related zoning regulations. The proposed ordinance would change some existing commercial zoning regulations and establish regulations for a new Small Neighborhood Business Zoning District. Businesses that serve alcoholic beverages are NOT part of this proposal.

•discuss draft philosophy statements on “Sustainability” and “Transportation & Mobility” and “Parks & Opens Spaces.” The Council met in January to discuss priority focus areas and requested that staff provide draft Philosophy Statements for review and refinement by the public. The seven priority areas are: Economic Health of the City, Arts & Culture, Neighborhood Quality of Life, Transportation & Mobility, Parks & Open Space, Sustainability and Education.

•interview Cindi Mansell prior to consideration of her appointment as the Salt Lake City Recorder.

•receive a briefing regarding a proposed ordinance change to the Central Community Master Plan and the zoning map for properties located at approximately 1015 -1035 South 200 West and 1068 Jefferson Street in order to develop a mixed-use project on the properties.
