911
Call Tips |
|
| When calling 911, | |
| 1. | Have the phone as close to the patient as possible. Medical Dispatchers are trained to talk you through an emergency. |
| 2. | Give the best address possible. Be as specific as possible about your location and the patient's location. NEVER HANG UP THE PHONE; the dispatcher will have to call the number back by policy. *If calling from a cellular telephone, giving your location allows the dispatcher to send help if your phone transmission stops. Cellular phones do not have location tracking available. |
| 3. | Explain the PROBLEM and how many patients are involved. |
| 4. | Explain if the patient is CONSCIOUS and/or BREATHING. |
| 5. | Give the AGE or best estimate and GENDER of the patient. |
| 6. | Turn on the porch light at the location of the patient, or have someone signal responding Apparatus. If possible have someone meet the Fire Fighters outside and escort them into the patient's location. DO NOT leave the patient alone to accomplish this step. |
| 7. | Do not wait for an emergency. Post your address on your home in clear visible sight day or night. Make and update a list of known medical history, include: Name, Date of Birth , Medical History (Hospital Records), List any Medications, Doctors Name (Hospital Records), Preferred Hospital if possible. |
