Disaster Preparedness - What is a
disaster, impact of disasters on our city's
infrastructure, structural and non-structural
hazards in buildings, and what is the role of CERT
members are during a disaster response.
Disaster Suppression – Discovering
and reducing potential fire hazards in your home and
work place. Then strategies and techniques you can
use to put out small fires, and identifying
potential firefighting resources.
Terrorism and
CERT - Describes the different types of
terrorism threats and what you and your community
need to do in case of terrorist attacks.
Disaster Medical Operations I –
Treatment strategies for life threatening conditions
or "killers" of victims in a disaster. How and why
we "triage" or sort patients in these situations.
Disaster Medical Operations II –
Head to toe assessment of victims, treatment for
fractures, lacerations, sprains, burns, and other
injuries and setting up a treatment area.
Light Search & Rescue – Search and
rescue priorities, how to "size up" a situation, how
lifting and cribbing is done properly, and safely
removing victims. Rescuer safety is highest
priority!
Disaster Psychology and Team Organization
– How to deal with post-disaster emotional problems
of victims and rescuers. Incident Command System and
how to organize the CERT team in your own area. The
strategies, tactics, and documentation needed from
your CERT team.
Course Review and Disaster Simulation
Exercise – Review of all the classes, and a
disaster simulation exercise using what you’ve
learned.
To cover the cost of this course we are charging
$50.00 per student. This helps to pay for the safety
equipment we issue and supplies we use in class. For
