Career Opportunities

Entry-level firefighter written exams are given every two years.  We anticipate the next exam will be the first week-end of May 2006.  We begin accepting names for an interest list approximately 4 months prior to the test date.  Please return to this website in January 2006 for more information and to complete an online interest card. 

Basic Requirements for becoming a firefighter with Salt Lake City Fire Department:

At the time of the written test you must:

            Be at least 18 years of age.  (There is no maximum age.)

            Be a US Citizen

            Have a high school diploma or GED

            Have or be able to attain a Utah Driver License by the time of employment.

*Although not required, during the 2004 process we added 1 additional point to the

  exam score if you were an EMT; 2 points if you were a Paramedic.
