Final Installment of Community Dialogues to Cover Personal Rights

Salt Lake City will host its final community dialogue of a three-part series on use of force issues on Wednesday, March 18 from 6-8 p.m. at Sorenson Unity Center, 1383 S. 900 West.

Participants will hear a short, 15-minute presentation from the ACLU of Utah’s legal director, John Mejia, entitled “Know Your Rights When Encountering Law Enforcement” before participating in facilitated small-group conversations.

“We invite residents of Salt Lake City to join us for this robust discussion on individual rights,” said Mayor Ralph Becker.  “The more we hear from constituents, the better able we will be to serve the public interest and enhance government effectiveness.”

Prior to the dialogues, participants are encouraged to review information on the subject. Suggested readings include:

• Salt Lake City Council Transmittal on Training on Minimizing Use of Lethal Force, here.

• The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) National Policy Summit on Community-Police Relations: Advancing a Culture of Cohesion and Community Trust, here.
