Plea in Abeyance/Traffic School

If you receive a traffic violation you may be eligible for a Plea in Abeyance (traffic school) and have your citation reported as a dismissal to the Driver License Division. Plea in Abeyance (traffic school) is not an option if you have a CDL license or if you were speeding in a school zone. You may qualify for a Plea in Abeyance (traffic school) if this is your first or second violation in the past twelve months and you meet the following conditions:

1. The Defendant must immediately notify the Court of any change of address or phone number.
2.

Pay to the Court the violation fee plus a $25.00 plea in abeyance fee and the traffic school fee of $50.00.

All fees are non-refundable.

3. Attend traffic School by the assigned date.

Once all the conditions have been met and verified by the Court, your Plea and Abeyance agreement will be signed by the City Prosecutor.  The Traffic School class is held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 5:45 PM in the Scott M. Matheson Courthouse located at:

450 South State Street
Conference & Jury Assembly Room
First Floor, Room W-19
Salt Lake City, Utah 84111

The class is one hour long. Payment may be made in cash, money order, credit card, or personal check with the proper I.D. and must be made in the Salt Lake City Justice Courts Building located at 333 South 200 East prior to attending the class. You must pay for the class in advance, and have a Plea in Abeyance form with you when you attend. No one will be admitted to the class without a Plea in Abeyance form.

Plea in Abeyance (traffic school) is not an option once citation is paid.
