Left Plates on Vehicle
If you have disposed of a vehicle with the license plates left on and have received a delinquent letter from the Salt Lake City Justice Court you must do the following:
When a vehicle is sold, traded, junked, repossessed or
given away in the State of Utah, the owner is required by state law to remove
the license plates.
If you have disposed of a vehicle without removing the license plates and have
received a delinquent letter from the Salt Lake Enforcement Office, you must
notify the Department of Motor Vehicles in writing that you no longer have the
vehicle in your possession and that the license plates were left on the vehicle
when disposed of.
Please include the name and address of the individual or company that purchased the vehicle if you know it.

Then you must see a hearing officer in the Salt Lake City Courts Building located at 333 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111, with a copy of your letter.
