Impounded, Immobilized or Booted Vehicle

If your vehicle has been Immobilized or Booted and then Impounded for outstanding parking tickets you must do the following:

If your vehicle has been Booted or Immobilized and/or impounded due to outstanding parking tickets, please read the following information and instructions. The vehicle will be released upon payment of the parking tickets and booting fees. If not released, the vehicle will be impounded and taken to the Salt Lake City Impound Lot when the 24-hour time limit expires.

You must have the license plate number and Salt Lake Police case number available when calling for an appointment to see a Violations Coordinator. If you do not have the license plate number and police case number, call Parking Enforcement at 535-6628 to obtain them.

If you are the registered owner of the vehicle, you must have a valid driver's license with you at the time of the hearing or the vehicle will not be released to you.

If you are not the registered owner of the vehicle, you must have a notarized letter of authorization from the owner stating that you are their representative, even if they are out of state. You must also have a valid driver's license with you at the time of the hearing.

If someone other than the owner of the vehicle will be driving the vehicle for the owner or their representative, they will be required to show the Violations Coordinator and other City personnel a valid driver's license before the vehicle will be released to them.

If you have purchased the vehicle and have been driving on the previous owner's license plates, you will be required to show proof of purchase at the time of the hearing.

If the vehicle was Immobilized or Booted because of registration violations or expired plates, you will be required to pay the property taxes and show proof of payment at the time of the hearing.

The Incident Response Team will release the vehicle after 6:00 P.M. weekdays upon payment of the tickets and fees in cash by calling 580-3559. You may request a hearing after the tickets have been paid and the vehicle released. You must have your receipt for payment of the tickets at the time of the hearing or it will not be held.
