Alarm Violations
What is a False Alarm?
A false alarm means the activation of an alarm system, which results in an
arrival at the alarm site by the police department where an emergency does
not exist.
Robbery, Panic and Duress Alarms
These alarms are activated by a human touch and the user is considered
to be in a “life threatening” situation. Unfortunately, they are also nearly
100 % false. They cannot be cancelled due to their emergency nature. The
first false alarm penalty has a $100.00 fine, the second a $150.00, the
third a $250.00, the fourth a $350, and $450 for any after that during a
365-day calendar year.
Burglar Alarms
Intrusion alarms require eyewitness verification from a private guard
responder that has confirmed that an attempted or actual crime has occurred
at the alarm site before a police officer will be dispatched.
False Alarm Prevention class
The Salt Lake City Police Department offers a False Alarm Prevention
Class. At the conclusion of class a waiver certificate towards one false
alarm fine if offered in lieu of fine payment. The cost for this class is
$10.00.
