March 24, 2009 Council MeetingSalt Lake City Council Members and Mayor Ralph Becker
congratulate the West High School 4A Basketball State Champions. As City Leaders, we don’t often take the time to celebrate the various school successes that take place in our community, nor the people who work so hard to make success happen. As members of the community, we do notice and tonight we want to take a minute to say thank you to those who continually contribute to the development, strength, and excitement of our City. We value education; our schools, public and private; and we understand the importance of an educated workforce. Although our responsibilities do not include educational oversight, as leaders we do understand the need to support and treasure our City schools and those who make them strong. Like members of the championship team here tonight, there are many who work hard every single day to reach their goals. West High School, we appreciate the many years of effort and hard work it took for you, your coaches, and yes, even your parents to be in the championship game. Your championship title, like the other outstanding athletic achievements enjoyed by our City this year, ignites and excites the community we serve. Congratulations – may this be one of many successes you will enjoy!" |
