Practice automobile safety with your children
Child Safety Belt Hints - courtesy of Utah Highway Safety. More
information may be received by calling (801) 293-2480.
- Babies under one year of age should be properly restrained in an approved
car safety seat in the center of the back seat, facing the rear of the
car.
- It is the responsibility of the driver of the car to see that the child
passenger is properly protected - no matter what the relationship is to the
child.
- If your car has lap/shoulder combination belts, it could be critical to
use a locking clip to properly secure your safety seat to the car. Read
the vehicle owners manual.
- Children should never be held on an adults lap. The force of a
collision would tear a child from the adults arms. If the adult is not
using a safety belt, the child could be crushed between the adults body
and the dashboard.
- Your childs safety depends on your willingness to use the equipment
correctly and every time. Read both the safety seat and vehicle owners
manuals.
- The safest place for any car safety seat is in the middle of the back seat
of the vehicle. All children under age 12 years should ride in the back
seat where it is the safest.
- Never place a rear-facing child seat in the front seat of a vehicle with a
passenger-side air bag. Your child could be in danger in a crash! Babies
and air bags dont mix!!
