District 1 - Carlton Christensen, Vice-Chair

Elected in November 2005 for a third term, Carlton J. Christensen took the oath of office on January 3, 2006 as the representative of Council District One. Carlton currently serves as the Vice Chair for the Salt Lake City Council, and also served as Council Chair for the years 2000 and 2003 and as Council Vice-Chair for 1998 and 2002.  Carlton formerly served as an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees for the Downtown Alliance as well as prior service as Chair of the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City in 2006 and 2007.  He also served on the Board of Directors for the Utah League of Cities & Towns from 1999 to 2001. more. . .

Council Members Christensen and Martin participated in the recent Sister City event with the new Director General of the Taiwan Consulate in San Francisco; Thomas Chen and his assistant Hai-Lei Hsu. Salt Lake City is a Sister City with Keelung City, Taiwan and will celebrate the 30th year in 2009.

Ukraine is hosting the 2012 Euro Cup Soccer Championships.  Ukrainian representatives visited Salt Lake City to gather information from the City regarding their experience in hosting and preparing for a similar event, the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.   Council Member Christensen was pleased to participate in their visit.
