City Celebrates Outdoor Retailer Summer Market with Volunteer Project
Visiting outdoor companies make time to give back to Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY – After a hard day’s work, vendors and employees of the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market will leave their booths at the Salt Palace on Friday evening, August 3, to help clean up the banks of the Jordan River. The Salt Lake City Parks and Public Lands Department and Service in the City Volunteer Program are hosting a special service project in conjunction with the Summer Market.

Vendors and employees  attending the tradeshow will join Parks and Public Lands staff at Jordan Park, 1060 South 900 West, from 6:30 – 8:45 pm as volunteers for a comprehensive cleanup along the Jordan River Parkway Trail.  Volunteers will be involved with clearing invasive species, picking up trash and cleaning the river banks.  The project was requested by outdoors vendor United By Blue and provides an opportunity for tradeshow attendees to take a break, get outdoors and make a difference.

“The Salt Lake City Open Space Program is excited to be working with attendees and exhibitors of the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market to improve the Jordan River,” said Leslie Chan, Salt Lake City Open Space Program Manager. “This event will go a long way toward keeping the Jordan River–a crucial habitat link to the Great Salt Lake–healthy and will also highlight the many opportunities we have right here in the City to protect, restore and enjoy nature.”

Managed by multiple municipalities, and spanning 40 mostly continuous miles, the Jordan River Parkway is maintained as a linear park within Salt Lake City limits.  The parkway passes through or is adjacent to nine City parks and three golf courses.  Other interesting features along the parkway include the Bend-in-the-River/Urban TreeHouse and Green Space and the International Peace Gardens.
