City and Community Garden Group to Host Open House on New Garden Parcels

SALT LAKE CITY – The City’s Division of Sustainability, in partnership with Wasatch Community Gardens, will host a community garden open house on Wednesday Nov. 13 from 6-8 p.m. on the first floor of the Salt Lake City & County Building, 451 S. State Street.

Residents are invited to come and learn about newly identified parcels of City-owned and operated land now available for the development of community gardens. Information about the Green City Growers application process and available resources will also be provided.

In an ordinance amendment passed unanimously by the Salt Lake City Council in October, eight parcels were indentified for community garden access. Residents are encouraged to review the available plots on and, if interested, to complete an application for the organization and creation of a community garden.

Applications are due by Dec. 1, 2013.

Salt Lake City works directly with Wasatch Community Gardens and community members to develop gardens within City limits through the Green City Growers Program. Wasatch Community Gardens is a community-based nonprofit that has served the Salt Lake County community for over 25 years.
