Grant Programs Salt
Lake City administers several grant programs which are funded by
federal funds or by City-generated funds. They have different
objectives and benefit different communities or residents of the City.
Listed below are the grant programs with summaries of their
objectives, and links to fuller descriptions and application
information. Follow this

These federal funds are be used to address local housing and community development needs.
Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, faith-based
organizations, government agencies, community councils, and
individuals requesting improvements, like parks, to their
communities. No match is required.
Homeless Prevention and Rapid
Re-Housing Program (HPRP)

The HPRP program is focused on
housing for the homeless and households at risk of becoming
homeless. Salt Lake City will allocate funding to subgrantees
who will provide temporary financial assistance and housing
relocation and stabilization services to individuals and
families who are homeless or would be homeless without this
assistance. Salt Lake City will give priority to: 1) Applicants
that are currently operating successful homeless prevention and
and re-housing programs; 2) Applicants that can demonstrate the
capacity to handle increased funding and meet the reporting
requirements and deadlines established by HUD; and 3) Applicants that
are already using the HMIS system of the homeless data
collection. The application submission deadline was July
7, 2009. Application are currently being reviewed by the Mayor
and City Council.

This federal funded program provides funds to
eligible organizations to strengthen public-private partnerships
to expand the supply of decent, safe, sanitary and affordable
housing. Primary attention is given to rental housing for very
low- and low-income families. Eligible applicants include: 1)
non-profit organizations, 2) for-profit entities, 3) nonprofit
community housing development organizations, and 4) public
agencies. The HOME program requires applicants to provide a 25%
non-federal match.

This is a federally funded program that provides funding to improve the quality of existing shelters for homeless populations, to help meet the operating costs of homeless shelters, to increase the number of homeless shelters and to provide essential social services to the homeless.
Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, faith-based
organizations, and government agencies. There is a one-to-one
match required.

The Housing Opportunities for Persons With Aids (HOPWA)
is a federally-funded program that provides housing assistance and related supportive services for low-income persons with HIV/AIDS and their
families who live within Salt Lake, Tooele and Summit Counties.
Eligible applicants include state and local governments and nonprofit
organizations, including faith-based organizations.

This program provides City-generated funds for a cash match of up to $5,000 to a neighborhood or
group of neighbors contributing volunteer labor (valued at $10.00 per hour), materials, professional services, and/or cash. Qualifying neighborhoods are awarded funds for specific projects that result in a physical improvement to their neighborhood.
Some projects include decorative street lighting, neighborhood
park improvements, tree planting and many other physical improvements for neighborhoods. Funds may be used for projects that enhance safety, address a neglected problem or improve the physical appearance of a neighborhood.
