Airport Board
The volunteer Board determines policy regarding the operation and management of the airports owned by Salt Lake City Corporation. It adopts methods that are in the public interest and are most likely to advance, enhance, foster and promote air transportation in conducting the business, use and operation of the airports. This includes overseeing planning, construction and expansion projects. Nine members, 4-year term. Members must be at least 21 years old, a resident of the State, and not actively engaged in commercial aeronautics.
Meets at 7:30 am the third Wednesday of each month at the Salt Lake City International Airport.

Arts Council
Advisory Board to the City in all matters concerning the arts. Oversees City arts grants program; public programs in performing, visual, literary, folk and ethnic arts; public information regarding the arts and management of the Art Barn, a community cultural facility. Council consists of community organizations such as ethnic groups, business organizations, labor unions, neighborhood councils, volunteer groups and churches, art groups (professional and amateur organizations), artists and art administrators. Fifteen members, 3-year term.
Meets second Wednesday at Art Barn in Reservoir Park at 5:30 pm. For more information, call 596-5000. 

Art Design Board
Oversees the City’s public art program, established by ordinance which designates certain funds for eligible construction projects to commission artwork. Board reviews and determines public art policy and is active in artist selection process. No more than two members shall be professional artists or arts administrators or art teachers. One member must be an architect. Five members, 3-year term.

Board Of Adjustment
Hears appeals on applications of the Zoning Ordinance. Reviews, grants or denies all applications for variances, special exceptions and appeals of an administrative decision. Five members, 5-year term; three alternates, 5-year term.
Meets once a month on the third Monday in Room 126 of the City & County Building at 4:00 pm. Members must be residents of Salt Lake City. For more information, call 535-6003.

Board of Adjustment Minutes and Agendas

Board Of Appeals & Examiners
Determines suitability of alternate materials and methods of construction, provides reasonable interpretations of the Building Code and hears appeals from City Administrative decisions. Members must be qualified by experience and training to pass upon matters pertaining to building construction, housing and abatement codes, and technical disciplines therein. Five members, 5-year term.

Business Advisory Board
Reviews ordinances and issues affecting Salt Lake City’s business community such as proposed impact fees, business license fees, and zoning concerns. Determines target industries for relocation efforts. Serves as “ambassadors” to promote doing business in Salt Lake City. Develops baseline criteria to evaluate City’s responsiveness to businesses. Serves as counterpoint to community council concerns at Planning Commission, Land Use Appeals, and other public hearings. Members must be residents of the City or nonresidents who have an ownership interest in a business within the city. Eleven members, 4-year term.

Citizens’ Compensation Advisory Committee
Evaluates and makes recommendations to the Mayor and City Council regarding compensation levels for the City’s elected officials and employees. Seven members - three appointed by the Mayor, three appointed by the City Council, and one appointed by the Committee.  Membership consists of a balanced representation from residents of Salt Lake City in terms of geographic, professional, neighborhood, and community interests. Employees of the City are ineligible to serve on the committee. Five members, 4-year term.

City & County Building Conservancy And Use Committee
Advise the Mayor regarding the use, maintenance, preservation and modification of the City & County Building, its historical fabric, corresponding furnishings, and landscape elements. Committee must have the following representation: One licensed architect, one member of the Utah Heritage Foundation, one member of the Salt Lake Arts Council, one landscape architect, one member of the Utah Historical Society, one licensed engineer, and two at-large representatives. Eight members, 4-year term. Meets bi-monthly at City & County Building.

Civil Service Commission
Makes, adopts and oversees compliance with rules and regulations to carry out intent of civil services statutes regulating police and fire departments.  Members may not hold any other public office, nor be a candidate for any other public office. Not more than two members of the civil service commission shall at any time be of the same political party. Three members, 6-year term. Meets third Thursday at 2:30 pm. Community Development & Capital Improvement Programs Advisory Board  Provides citizens with opportunity to participate, in an advisory role, in the city’s planning, assessment and allocation of its community development grants and capital improvement programs.  Obtains the opinions of persons who live and/or work in various neighborhoods to aid the city in identifying the needs within those areas and the programs and projects to be completed as part of the city’s community development and capital improvement programs.    All members must be Salt Lake City residents; at least one member shall be appointed from each council district.  Membership should include representatives of low and moderate income, ethnic minorities, persons with disabilities and elderly persons, female-headed households and persons who represent business or commercial interests of the city.  Nine to eleven members, 3-year term.  For meeting times, call 535-7115.

Golf Enterprise Fund Advisory Board
Provides business oversight and insights into the operation and maintenance of the City’s golf course system. Six of the seven members must be Salt Lake City residents and one member must reside in Salt Lake County. No member is eligible to serve on the board while actively engaged or employed in any commercial venture on or with Salt Lake City golf courses. It is the intent of the City to have membership on the board to provide business oversight and insights into the operation of the golf courses (banking, financing, marketing, merchandising, etc.). Historic Landmark Commission
The Historic Landmark Commission conducts design review of new construction or alteration to properties in locally designated historic districts and landmark sites. The Commission is responsible to promote, nominate, and monitor the preservation of historically significant resources with the boundaries of the City. The Commission consists of citizens interested in historic preservation, including design professionals and representatives of historic preservation groups. The Commission consists of 9 to 15 members, serving three-year terms. Historic Landmark Commission meetings occur on the first Wednesday of the month at the City & County Building, Room 126, at 3 p.m. For more information, call 535-7757.

Housing Advisory & Appeals Board
Improve housing and neighborhood conditions within the City through recommendations to the Mayor and the City Council. Hears appeals of property owners regarding demolition and rehabilitation. Membership is made up of Salt Lake City residents providing balanced geographical, professional, neighborhood, and community representation. Ten members, 3-year term. Meets second Wednesday, noon in Room 126 of the City & County Building. Call 535-6042 for more information.

Housing Authority
Provides low-income housing to Salt Lake City residents. Five members, 5-year term. Meets last Monday, 12:00 to 3:00 pm at the Housing Authority. Call 483-5407 for more information. 

Housing Trust Fund Advisory Board
Advises and recommends to the Mayor and the City Council affordable housing proposals and special needs housing issues that should be funded using the Salt Lake City Housing Trust Fund. Reviews, based on staff monitoring reports, the activities of recipients of grants and loans to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions imposed. Reviews housing loss mitigation plans and makes recommendations. Serves as a coordination body and resource for organizations interested in affordable and special needs housing issues. All members must be Salt Lake City residents and at least one member shall be appointed from each council district. Members should have expertise or experience in affordable and/or special needs housing, business, real estate, or housing development. Eleven members, 3-year term. For meeting times, call 535-7269. 

Human Rights Commission
Makes recommendations to the Mayor and City Council regarding educational resources on issues of discrimination and equal treatment. Reviews complaints of discrimination involving city departments or services to identify possible sources. Reviews legislation, policies or other action by the city designed to further eliminate prejudice and discrimination. Reviews pending legislation, policy changes or other city action that may impact human rights. Works in partnership to foster positive intergroup relations through educational programs. Nine members - one from each of the seven Council districts and two who represent the diversity of the city. All members must be Salt Lake City residents and at least 18 years of age. 4-year term. Land Use Appeals Board
Hears and decides appeals and decisions made by the Historic Landmark and Planning Commission. Must be Salt Lake City residents with legal or land use experience. Three members and two alternates, 3-year term. Meets on demand. Call 535-7105 for more information.

Library Board
Adopts policies for the operation of all City libraries; hires the Library Director and appoints personnel with recommendations of the Director. Oversees budget and capital facilities development. Must be Salt Lake City resident. Nine members, 3-year term. Call 524-8278 for time and location of meetings.  

Magna Mosquito Abatement District
Establishes policy to combat mosquitoes to avoid public health and nuisance hazards. Salt Lake City appoints one member to serve on this District board. The term is four years. For more information on meeting times and location, call 250-7765.
 

Mosquito Abatement District
The District has broad powers to act expediently to meet the emergency needs of rapid mosquito development and avoidance of public health and nuisance hazards. The SLCMAD may take all necessary and proper steps for the extermination of mosquitoes, flies, crickets, grasshoppers and other insects and to abate as nuisances all stagnant pools of water or other breeding places of these insects anywhere in the state situated so that mosquitoes there from may migrate into the district. Must be Salt Lake City resident. Five members, 4-year term. The Board meets monthly on the third Tuesday at the District office. Call 355-9221 for more information. 

Open Space Lands Advisory Board
Advise and make recommendations to City Administration and City Council on open lands preservation issues, projects and plans. Advise and make recommendations for the expenditure of open lands funds. Assist in preparation of annual budget for open lands. Make recommendations regarding any proposed construction or enhancement of open lands acquired with fund money. Assist City Administration with education or outreach efforts to foster public awareness and understanding of open lands program. Nine members, 4-year terms.  

Planning Commission
Adopts and acts on any changes to the City’s master plans, redevelopment plans, special studies, zoning ordinances, and use district maps. Approves planned unit developments, conditional uses and certain subdivisions. All members must be Salt Lake City residents and at least one member shall be appointed from each council district. The Commission should be comprised of members with expertise in banking, development, contracting, engineering, geology and seismology, law, ecology, the behavioral sciences, historical preservation, architecture and landscape architecture. The Commission should not, however, be limited to professionals, but represent a cross-section of the community. Eleven members, 4-year term. Police Civilian Review Board  
Provides civilian oversight of certain complaints and internal police investigations regarding conduct of the police. Audits and reviews all cases in which it is claimed that a police officer used excessive force and such other cases as the Board in its discretion may request. Two members shall be appointed from each Council district. Appointments are made with the goal of providing geographical, professional, neighborhood, racial, gender and ethnic diversity to the Board so that balanced community representation is achieved. Officers or employees of the City shall not be appointed to the Board. Fourteen members, 3-year term.

Public Utilities Advisory Committee
Recommends capital improvements for water resources development and sewage reclamation requirements. Recommends proposed legislation on water, storm water, and sewage issues and advises the Public Utilities Director. Nine members, 4-year term. At least three members, at the time of their appointment, must reside outside the corporate limits of the city; however, their place of residence must be within the county and within the service districts supplied by the city water department. Members may not be actively engaged or employed in any commercial activity that sells goods or services directly to the public utilities of the city. Meets fourth Thursday, 7:00 am at the Public Utilities building. Call 483-6768 for more information. 
 

Redevelopment Advisory Committee
Advises Board of Directors of the Redevelopment Agency concerning the Agency’s redevelopment programs, activities and project areas undertaken under the provisions of the Utah Neighborhood Development Act and the Utah Residential Rehabilitation Act as requested by the Board of Directors. Nine members, 4-year term. Two members may reside outside the boundaries of the City provided they own a business within the City or work in the City. Occupations that may be represented on the committee are finance, construction, law, architecture, and planning. For more information, call 535-7240.

Sister Cities Board
Serves in an advisory role to the Mayor on the Sister Cities Program. Coordinates with the Mayor and the City Council to implement the goals and objectives of the Sister Cities Program. Makes budget recommendations to the Mayor and oversees all budget transactions. Provides an annual report to the Mayor outlining activities and budgetary issues and reviews all requests for Sister City partnerships, making recommendations to the Mayor. Must be a resident of Salt Lake County.  Fifteen members, 3-year term. For additional information, call 535-7269. 

Sugar House Park Authority
Owns, oversees and manages the operation and maintenance of Sugar House Park. Seven members, 5-year term. Meetings set by Authority, generally for third Thursday at 6:00 pm at the Salt Lake County offices. Call 535-7939 for more information. 

Transportation Advisory Board
Reviews regional, city-wide and significant local transportation issues as appropriate and provides recommendations to the Transportation Director and/or Mayor and City Council. Assists in updating transportation master plan and traffic calming program. Monitors the City’s crossing guard program and promotes public education of transportation issues that affect the City and its citizens. Fifteen members, 3-year term. Membership shall consist of one resident from each of the eight city planning districts, one at large member to represent the Northwest Quadrant Planning District, one representative of college level transportation academia, one representative of a business-oriented organization actively involved in transportation issues affecting SLC, and one representative of the SLC School District. Other individuals representing organizations with continuing interest and involvement in City transportation issues may be appointed members. Meetings will be held monthly. Youth And Family Recreation And Programs Advisory Board
Recommends planning, establishment and approval of construction and expansion projects for City recreational programs and facilities. Recommends broad matters of policy regarding operation and management of City youth and family recreation, programs and facilities. Facilitates fundraising as needed. Annually recommends program evaluation, performance oversight and use and development of facilities throughout the city. Reviews City park use policies and practices and makes recommendations on how park resources can better support the recreation needs of the city. Assists Director of Public Services in continuing orderly development and promotion of City youth and family recreation, programs and facilities to best serve the citizens.  Fourteen members. One member from each of the seven council districts. One member representing the Salt Lake City School Board. One member representing the Salt Lake City Community Education Program. One member representing the communities served by the Salt Lake City Sports Complex and Fairmont Park swimming facility. One member representing the communities served by the NW Community Center and Sorenson Multicultural Center. One member representing the communities served by the Central City Community Center and Kiwanis Boys and Girls Center. Two high school age members.
