There are claims that are not subject to the requirements of the Governmental Immunity Act of Utah and which may be subject to other laws or procedures. Not all claims are honored even if correct procedures are followed; there are many circumstances where a claim need not be paid. You are urged to obtain competent legal advice if you have any questions. In addition, Salt Lake City makes no warranty as to the correctness or completeness of this information. Requirements of the Governmental Immunity Act of Utah change from time to time. You are responsible for compliance with the current requirements of the Governmental Immunity Act of Utah. The provision of this information is not to be construed as a waiver of any provision of the Governmental Immunity Act of Utah. Making a claim against the City for personal injury or property damage In general, to make a claim against Salt Lake City for personal injury or property damage, you are required to comply with the provisions of the Governmental Immunity Act of Utah. This can usually be found at your local library or on the Utah State Government website. Steps involved in filing a claim There are four steps involved in filing a claim:

Do not FAX the claim form: facsimiles are not acceptable. If you do not use the address above, your claim will not be accepted. Filing the claim on time You must file your claim according to the time specifications in the Utah Code or Salt Lake City Ordinance.

claims. (63G-7-402) Responding to the claim Salt Lake City will respond to your claim according to the provisions in the Utah Code (63G-7-403). Click here for this provision in the Utah Code. This section of the code also gives details about how to proceed if your claim is denied. Filing claims without merit You should not make a claim that is without merit and not brought or asserted in good faith. Salt Lake City will report all cases of fraud to the Utah Insurance Fraud Division and will seek prosecution to the full extent of the law.
