“Flying Objects” is a new public art project in downtown Salt Lake City. A series of sculptures rotating in groups between three locations over the next few years, “Flying Objects” emphasizes the already vibrant arts scene downtown.
The artwork was chosen to contribute color and whimsy to the downtown streetscape and to give people the experience of artistic expressions in a variety of styles and materials. For the artists, “Flying Objects” is an opportunity to experiment with public art on a temporary and lighthearted basis. The artwork will be returned to the artists, who have been paid an honorarium, at the end of the project period.
