Living Traditions Kids
Living Traditions Kids welcome children ages 12 and younger to enjoy the experience of making traditional crafts taught by local craft artists. The activities are colorful and educational, resulting in handmade crafts that each child can take home. Living Traditions Kids offers a creative, hands-on experience as the children learn the story of the crafts they are making.
Living Traditions Kids is open on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please note children must be accompanied by an adult.
Activities and Artists
Japanese Origami – Judith Iwamoto
Making cranes, boxes and many other items out of paper, children will learn the art of origami, an ancient Japanese tradition.
Chinese Water Chestnuts- Jane Zhang
Crafted from beads and organic materials, these water chestnuts are symbols of good fortune and happiness.
Mexican Paper Flowers- Della Martinez
Using tissue paper, a staple in Mexican crafts, children will learn the traditional skill of creating paper flowers.
Japanese Kites
Children will learn to build authentic Japanese kites, a colorful component of many of their traditional celebrations.
Brazilian Capoeira- Mestrando Jamaika
Children will learn this unique Brazilian artform that mixes martial art and dance.
Saturday only at 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Sudanese Clay Bulls- Dominic Raimondo
Children will learn about the Sudanese cattle culture by creating toy bulls from clay.
