Salt Lake City Public Utilities and the Bonneville Cooperative Weed Management Area are teaming up with local non-profit groups to sponsor the 3rd annual City Creek Woad Runner weed pulling event throughout the month of May.
We are hoping to send the evil invasive weed Dyers Woad ‘running’ from City Creek Canyon Nature Preserve. Our goal is to stop this year’s seed crop from spreading by hand pulling as much Dyers Woad as possible.
Dyers Woad (Isatis tinctoria) is on Utah’s noxious weeds list because it reduces wildlife forage, ruins native plant communities and damages cropland. The best way to get rid of Dyers Woad is to pull it. Since the first ‘Woad Runner’ in 2006, we have only seen a 10% return rate of this noxious weed in areas that were pulled.
Everyone from the City Creek loving public is invited to come take part in this community event! For more information, please visit us at www.keepitpure.com , or call 801-483-6884.
