Snow removal priority maps
The road network in Salt Lake City
contains approximately 1,750 paved lane miles. The City is divided in
three snow districts and each district is further divided into snow
sectors. Within each snow sector all roads are prioritized such that
the assigned personnel and equipment specifically dedicated to that
sector will follow the same set pattern to effectively remove snow
on a 24-hour, seven days a week, basis to assure safe passage for the
traveling public.
During any given winter storm all snow sectors throughout the City
limits receive snow removal services at the same time with number
one priorities being arterial and main roads as well as functionally
sensitive areas such as hospitals, fire stations, etc.
The following district maps show the priority one roads, how the
sectors are divided as well as the roadways not plowed by our
personnel such as private streets and State maintained streets that
run through the City.
Once priority one (Red color) roads are plowed and under control,
all remaining roadways are plowed following a particular sequence
(not shown here due to space constraints). Once a normal snow storm
has stopped, all roads within Salt Lake City will be plowed within
36 hours.
