Comment: I love the proposed plans, we need
to make the park attractive for people to use or it will remain
a haven for the homeless and crime.
The more constant police presence only reinforces the
belief that this is a bad neighborhood which should be avoided.
If we can change use patterns then criminals will move.

Comment: Keep the trees! Glad to hear
they are protected. I believe a stronger police force (i.e.
Bike cops) would be a simple solution to the drug problem in
the park. As to the stage, what about
Triad
Center
? Just blocks away/unused. Regardless, I’m excited for the
park. I think its future is bright. |

Comment: I love this park and support
every effort to continue its improvement. The proposed plan is
very exciting and you have my full support to contribute the
full amount of funds for its 100 % build out. |

Comment: I’d like to see us keep as
many or all of the old trees. The plan is too symmetrical in
its new planting. Maintain tennis courts. Look into year round
farmers market with designated structure! |

Comment: Other things equal, I’d love
to see the tennis court stay. The only reason I don’t use it
is why I don’t us the park period. It’s in disrepair and
largely occupied by homeless people. Were the park fixed up,
I’d use it, including the tennis court. |

Comment: Past history must be remembered.
To commercialize would be not a good idea. Businesses can be
around the park. This is public; even the homeless have a
right to be here! The city should spend less money on the park
and more to help the homeless. |

Homeless people do have the right to be there because it’s a
public place however they don’t have the right to break
laws, deal drugs, and create an unsafe environment for the
rest of the public. I would love to enjoy my lunch breaks in
the park but at this time I have no desire and am even
scared to enter the premises. I worry about dangers to
myself like being attacked and even catching a disease from
a discarded hypodermic needle. All the plans sound great but
if there is no way to control the local riff-raff than all
we are doing is creating a new pristine place for them to
deal drugs. The truth is I don’t think the solution is
renovation but it’s a good start.

I live
in Sandy and work at one of the gateway's office buildings.
My colleagues and I would definitely like to see the park
renovated. We would use it for basketball games at lunch and
perhaps picnics, meetings and what not. I'm sure there are
many of us that would gladly make a contribution if there is
a donation fund out there to see the park be taken through
all 3 phases of renovation.
