Smart growth is a primary focus for Salt Lake City. Environmental initiatives earned an Environmental World Leadership Award in 2005. Salt Lake City takes a comprehensive approach to environmental protection from promoting alternative transportation and water conservation to high performance building and greenhouse gas emissions reductions. The Salt Lake City Green program provides numerous opportunities to help business grow and thrive in a sustainable, environmentally-conscious way.

e2 Business
e2 stands for economically and environmentally sustainable. The e2 Business program is an innovative tool that provides local business the knowledge and support to implement a sustainable business model. Through instituting sound and environmentally-friendly business practices it is possible to increase the efficiency and cost effectiveness of you business with value added benefits. These include free advertising, earned media, free consultation with Salt Lake City staff experts and use of the e2 brand.

High Performance Building
Salt Lake City requires that all city-owned and operated buildings meet the “Silver” level efficiency standards set forth by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). By exceeding the standards of “certified,” Salt Lake City sets an example for responsible city management that reduces negative environmental impacts, and through decreased operating costs, saves taxpayer money.
