Doing business : Labor market

Salt Lake sits atop Forbes' list of "Best Cities for Jobs" in the United States in 2008.

Salt Lake City’s labor force comprises a highly educated, young working population with a strong work ethic, who are working to create a city dedicated to fostering livable communities. Below-average wage rates and a low cost of business continue to attract a record number of businesses to locate and expand their facilities in Salt Lake City.

Utah currently maintains one of the fastest job growth rates in the United States. Strong local population growth from above-average family sizes and continued national and international in-migration guarantee that the future labor needs will be met.

Work force training

Utah Department of Workforce Services
Provides accessible employment related and support services responsive to the needs of employers, job seekers, and the community.

Custom Fit
Custom Fit is an employee training program offered through the Utah College of Applied Technology, state colleges, and the local business community. It provides training in specific technologies, computer skills, safety certification, leadership, management and team-building. The Utah State Legislature allocates annual funding to Custom Fit, covering a substantial portion of the cost to employers.

Short Term Intensive Training
Salt Lake Community College’s Short-Term Intensive Training Program utilizes state funds to provide occupationally specific intensive training for current employees (or for individuals who, after receiving the training, will be hired) by effectively and economically matching their training needs with those of industry. The types of training subsidized by STIT are as varied as the companies themselves.
