Fee Schedules

Fees are used to defray the expenses involved with checking plans, conducting inspections and associated clerical and supervisory services. The following are the fee schedules used by Salt Lake City Corporation. Fees must be paid before any permits are issued.

Building Permit Fees

Building permit fees are based on the value of the work, as calculated by the plans examiners. The calculation is based on the Uniform Building Code fee schedule. Plan review fees are to paid at the time plans are submitted for plan check. Plan check is 65% of the building permit fee. Payment of the plan review fee is in addition to the building permit fee and is non-refundable after plans are accepted and the review is started.   For permit fees up to $1,000,000

Plumbing Permit Fees

Plumbing permit fees are based on the number of fixtures (not fixture units) according to the fee schedule in Salt Lake City Code.

Electrical Permit Fees

Electric permit fees are based on the valuation of the work being done. For new residential construction, the fee is based on the square footage of the structures involved. Power to panel, temporary electric and new electric service permits are also required and are separate permits from the general electrical permits.

Mechanical Permit Fees

Mechanical permit fees are based on the actual mechanical equipment being installed, such as furnaces, fireplaces, air conditioning units, etc. The fee is based on fee schedule for mechanical equipment in the Salt Lake City ordinances.

Zoning Fees

Zoning fees are based on the fee schedule in the Salt Lake City Zoning Ordinance, Title 21A. The fees that need to be paid from this schedule include variances, special exceptions, conditional uses, historical landmarks applications, etc.
