About Us

The Historic Landmark Commission (HLC) reviews all applications for landmark sites, demolition and new construction within locally-designated historic districts. They do not review interior work or exterior paint color, only exterior alterations. The majority of the projects presented to the HLC are either approved as submitted or with modifications.

Meetings

An HLC meeting begins with the approval of minutes from previous meeting, and a ten-minute period for interested citizens to present concerns, issues or questions to the HLC members. The Commission then begins reviewing the cases on the agenda.

Applicants are welcome to attend and observe an HLC meeting prior to going before the Commission. Meetings are open to the public. Anyone who wishes to address the commission or subcommittee regarding an item on the agenda will have an opportunity to do so. There is also time set aside at each meeting for the public to comment on preservation-related issues not on the agenda.

Meetings

The HLC meets the first Wednesday of every month.   Meetings begin at 4:00 p.m., and are held in the City and County Building at 451 S. State.

Contact the Planning staff to verify room numbers and agenda items.
