About Us

The Historic Landmark Commission (HLC) reviews all applications for landmark sites, demolition and new construction within locally-designated historic districts. They do not review interior work or exterior paint color, only exterior alterations. The majority of the projects presented to the HLC are either approved as submitted or with modifications.

Eastside Salt Lake City: Listed 1996-2002

The Eastside Salt Lake City Historic District includes one locally-designated district, Central City (listed in 1996); and two separate boundary additions:

  • Bryant neighborhood (listed in 2000)
  • Bennion-Douglas neighborhood (listing in progress)

This district is significant for its associations with the early development pattern of Salt Lake City, and for its transformation from an isolated, agrarian community into an urban center of regional importance.

East Side includes Bryant and Bennion-Douglas Neighborhoods
