The Historic Landmark
Commission (HLC) reviews all
applications for landmark sites, demolition
and new construction within
locally-designated historic districts.
They do not review
interior work or exterior paint
color, only exterior
alterations. The majority
of the projects presented
to the HLC are either
approved as submitted or
with modifications.

Demolition of Contributing Building
|
The Historic Landmark Commission can allow the demolition of contributing structure in a locally-designated historic district in three instances:
- If the applicant can prove that the denial of demolition would cause an economic hardship to the owner.
- If the building official determines that the building poses a threat to public health and safety.
- If the applicant meets six of seven criteria outlined in Section 21A.34.020.L.1 of the Salt Lake City Zoning Ordinance.
The procedure for determining economic hardship is a separate process. For more information, contact the
Planning staff, this website, and Section 21A.34.020.L of the Salt Lake City Zoning Ordinance.
