About Us

The Historic Landmark Commission (HLC) reviews all applications for landmark sites, demolition and new construction within locally-designated historic districts. They do not review interior work or exterior paint color, only exterior alterations. The majority of the projects presented to the HLC are either approved as submitted or with modifications.

Use this form when applying to use a building listed on the Salt Lake City Register of Cultural Resources as a conditional use. Salt Lake City allows the following as conditional uses:

  • Bed and breakfast establishments
  • Offices
  • Reception Centers
  • House museums
Conditional Use

The purpose of allowing these uses is to accommodate the adaptive reuse of a significant structure that might have outlived its original use as a residential dwelling due to economic conditions, size of the structure, and/or a substantial degree of deterioration of the historic property.
