Land Use Appeals Board

The Land Use Appeals Board hears and decides appeals of decisions made by the Historic Landmarks Commission and Salt Lake City Planning Commission. As an appellate body, the board seeks verify that ordinances and processes were applied appropriately and applicable decision-making processes were followed. Appeals of the Land Use Appeals Board determinations are heard by the 3rd District Court.

Powers and duties

Hear and decided appeals of decisions made by the historic landmark commission
Hear and decide appeals of decisions made by the Planning Commission concerning subdivisions or subdivision amendments
Hear and decide appeals of decisions made by the Planning Commission regarding conditional uses, conditional site plan reviews, or planned developments

Member qualifications

The Land Use Appeals Board consists of five members, appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council. The board aims to have balanced representation of geographic, professional, neighborhood, and community interests. Preference is given to those with land use or legal expertise. Each member serves a three year term and may be reappointed for a second three year term.
