Salt Lake City Ordinance No. 25 of 2004

Fact Sheet

The purpose of this ordinance is to encourage public activities by artists in all disciplines, in balance with public safety and other municipal concerns.

It is recommended that artists interested in this type of activity read the ordinance. Details as to allowable locations, exhibit dimensions, and hours of operation are spelled out in the ordinance.

Artists who present their work for sale or compensation must register by completing an application and paying a $30 registration fee through the office of Property Management.

Specific geographic areas in the City have been designated for these activities, including sites in a number of City parks and in two commercially-zoned districts (Sugar House and downtown Salt Lake City). Maps of these designated areas are also available on-line (click here).

For more information on the registration application, call Salt Lake City Property Management at 535-7133. For the ordinance and the online application, click here. For more information about other programs and services for artists, call the Salt Lake City Arts Council at 596-5000, or the Utah Arts Council at 236-7555.
