Salt Lake City's public art program provides opportunities for artists to create artwork that enhances or is integrated into public buildings and public spaces. Established by ordinance, this program is managed by the Salt Lake City Arts Council with oversight from a citizen advisory board, the Salt Lake Art Design Board.
Funding is derived from a number of sources, including the City's general fund, the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City, bond issues and partners like the Utah Transit Authority..
When a new project has been identified, and the scope, budget and timeline for the project have been determined, a public announcement is issued to interested artists. To be included on the mailing list for these announcements, artists can call the Arts Council at
801.596.5000 or send e-mail
.
These public art projects are generally not restricted to Utah artists. However, some of the smaller commissions may be limited to Utah artists because of budget considerations.
Salt Lake County and the
State of Utah also administer public art programs.
