Living Traditions Kids
Living Traditions Kids welcome children ages 12 and younger to enjoy the experience of making traditional crafts taught by local craft artists. The activities are colorful and educational, resulting in handmade crafts that each child can take home. Living Traditions Kids offers a creative, hands-on experience as the children learn the story of the crafts they are making.
Living Traditions Kids is open on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please note children must be accompanied by an adult.
Activities and Artists
Japanese Origami – Judith Iwamoto
Making cranes, boxes and many other items by folding decorative paper, children learn the art of origami, an ancient Japanese tradition.
Mexican Paper Flowers - Natalia Christensen
Using tissue paper, a staple in Mexican crafts, children learn the traditional skills of creating colorful paper flowers.
Tongan Sila - Ana Vea
SILA is the coat of arms designed to express the country of Tonga’ s unity, after many years of a nation divided among three kingships. Each symbol holds a piece of Tonga’s history and lively culture. Inspired by original designs of Tonga’s coat of arms, children can create and illustrate their own.
Brazilian Capoeira - Mestrando Jamaika
Children will learn this Brazilian artform that mixes martial art and dance.
Saturday only at 1:30 and 2:30 pm.
